Before getting into the meat of this guide, which should give you all the tools necessary to dominate in your solo exploits, here is a quick rundown of how I made it. First of all, I only play on the highest difficulty. Sports games are easy and should be treated as such. I also use minute quarters. While other games have devised realistic systems that allow you to play with the real-life quarter length, Madden has not. I find that 12 minutes allows for the same amount of plays found in a regular NFL game.

Some positions can use this, and I will show you which. And finally, always create your player as an early round draft pick. You will start with the skills necessary to do well as a rookie. The difference between a speed statistic of 90 vs. Always create a mobile quarterback. I repeat: Always play a mobile quarterback. The costs of upgrading physical attributes like speed, acceleration and agility greatly outweigh improving the throwing attributes. You will start with a 95 throwing power, so spend your first six weeks or so upgrading your accuracy statistics.

Make him tall, as in 6 feet-6 inches or larger. You may want to check the offensive line of the team you wish to play for before creating your player. Adding a lineman or two to shore up any deficiencies may help.

The Denver Broncos is an excellent team to consider, as it needs a quarterback and has two great wide receivers. You will throw interceptions. The All-Madden difficulty makes the opposing defensive backs into monster, so sometimes you just will throw picks. You will also take sacks, as this difficulty turns your offensive linemen into marshmallows.

But you can take advantage of a defense before the ball is snapped. The traditional way of calling plays means you select running plays on first down.

Try using a play-action or short pass. There should be two of them. You should also take a look at what the defensive ends, the guys on the outside of the line opposite your line, do after you snap the ball. If you have 10 yards or so in front of you, run it. Passing is always risky, even if your guy is wide open. Running for the first down is a sure bet.

If you can see where the defender is, flick the stick away from that player. Your receivers will drop a lot of passes. That just happens on All-Madden difficulty. He will never be good for more than a few yards. I like to complete 50 or yards of passing before going to the running back, as the defense will no longer be primed to swallow him whole. Quarterback allows you the most control in the game. Do you know which stats matter most for the running back position, or for your cornerbacks? With this Madden 18 player stats guidewe'll tell you what stats to look out for at every position.

In case you need help with anything else related to Madden 18, make sure to head over to our Madden 18 tips and tricks guide hub, where we've got full guides on Ultimate Team, offensive playbooks, defensive playbooks, and more. Firstly, why do the stats of each player matter?

Madden 18 Player Stats Guide - Most Important Player Stats for Each Position

Well, particularly in Madden Ultimate Team, you want to have the right personnel for the role. Does your offense revolve heavily around mid throws, deep throws, or simple check downs? Either way, you'll need to know which area the quarterbacks on your team excel in. All the stats that revolve around throw power are essential for the quarterback, as well as the play action statistic. Each stat listed above is crucial to the running back position, and basically dictates what situations your HB will excel in.

Is their trucking better than their juking or elusiveness? This tells you that they're better for running through defenders than around them, and are great when you need a gain of just a few yards.

A good release stat is essential for any wide receiver that stands a hope of gaining some separation between them and a defender, while the route running stat dictates how good they are at performing special moves such as cuts when running their assigned routes. Catch in traffic is a key stat for your tight end, as they'll usually be running rights in the midst of plenty of defenders.

Awareness helps with both catching the ball and knowing which defenders to block in run plays, so this is pretty essential too. The impact blocking and strength statistic will tell you how effectively your lineman can block for, and also for how long they can hold the opposing player off. The awareness stat helps them to see any incoming defenders that are currently unblocked, and attempt to block them before they reach your QB.

While awareness dictates how smart an offensive player is, play recognition is the same on the defensive side of the ball. The strength and block shedding stats indicate how effectively your DE can go through an opposing OL player.

Defensive ends effectively have more to do in the scheme, hence the need for more important stats. Acceleration and speed only help towards blitzing, while finesse moves can allow them to get around an offensive line player with ease. Defensive tackles have one job and one job only: get through the offensive line and sack the QB, hence your need to focus on their strength and block shedding stats over all else. Both the outside linebacker positions can be called upon to either blitz, hence the block shedding stat, or cover in the secondary, hence the importance of the zone coverage statistic.

The middle linebacker on your defense effectively needs to patrol the middle of the field, either blitzing when assigned to, or covering any open receivers.

Both the tackling and zone coverage stat can help in either of these situations. If your cornerback is one more orientated towards man coverage, then you're going to need high man coverage, press, speed, and height stats, so that they can keep up and stand shoulder to shoulder with whoever they're covering. As they're in charge of an entire area instead of just one person, the zone coverage cornerbacks need to have high play recognition stats, in order to be aware of everything that's going on around them.

Your free safety will likely be called upon to cover a zone rather than a single player, hence the need for a high speed and zone coverage rating. Your strong safety will typically have more to do than the free safety, and so they'll need good block shedding and tackling stats if they're blitzing, and good zone coverage stats if they're back in coverage.

Starting with. This has been a great rookie class, particularly among running backs. While Kareem Hunt, Leonard Fournette, and even New Orleans Saint teammate Marshon Lattimore all warrant high praise, you have to consider that the season started with Kamara behind two well-established running backs. After the Adrian Peterson trade, Kamara was getting more touches.

That limited use became more frequent as the season went on. Lawrence was a defensive powerhouse for the Dallas Cowboys. The Tennessee Titans defense was stout against the ground game, but Byard made several QBs leave plays filled with regret. He responded by tying the league lead in interceptions, and rose all the way to an 89 OVR. Keenum was one of the best stories in the NFL this season.

The offense was efficient with Keenum at the helm. Keenum was a big factor. The year started with Pryor being a WR in the 80s, with solid enough base ratings to make him a unique target. That was in Madden though, and Pryor had a season to forget.

In Madden, he can be an exceptional WR2. Martin came into the season and looked great in his first game of action. To be sure, some of it came from usage, as coach Dan Quinn made an effort to use Beasley more on the pass rush. He has the talent to climb the ratings next season, provided he gets the opportunity and that Atlanta can provide enough pressure elsewhere so attention is forced to go away from Beasley.

It seems like a long time ago, but Murray started Madden 18 as a top five running back. His decline in production saw him fall out of the 90s in OVR all the way to the low 80s. While never an elite talent, Gay has been a consistent contributor to the Pittsburgh Steelers defense. His base ratings remain mostly intact, but he took a dip in nearly every coverage category, including Man and Zone Coverage and Pursuit.

Fullbacks can be a useful asset in Madden. But in order for them to be effective, they have to block well. That was before the NFL season happened. His blocking ratings took major hits this year, particularly Impact Blocking.

DiMarco went from usable in Madden to a major liability.

You shouldn't mind much, though, because when you do use him, you've got the best of all time. Luckily for the virtual Steelers, Bell won't be holding out of your game although that would be a fantastic feature for future years, EA.

But if you like running in Madden, Bell is the pixelated person for you. Antonio Brown was the top guy last year, and he's right behind Jones this year. Some could argue he should be ahead of him. But virtual and real-life Jones have earned the spectacular catch rating he has 98 after an catch, 1,yard season last year -- better than Brown's 1, yards.

The blind-side protector of Kirk Cousins overtook Tyron Smith as the top-rated tackle this year, as part of a group that allowed sacks on only 3. Washington also gained 6. This shouldn't be a surprise. Yanda is one of the best guards in the league in real life and a premier pass blocker with a 98 rating.
